Project Alda is the name given to the commercial scale wave energy scheme developed by SeWave for first deployment in the Faroes Islands at the Nipan location. The project so far developed and proposed is a tunnelled wave energy converter (TWEC) system, based on Oscillating Water Column technology. The full scale plant will be built at Nipan and employ the tunnelling skills and know how existing here in the Faroes to create the tunnel air chamber and the proven air turbine experise and manufacturing capability of Dresser-Rand to deliver the mechanical and electrical plant.
The wave motions outside the cliff face push the water into the tunnel-chamber, creating the function of a stamp for the air, which is pressured and pulled through a turbine.
From idea to reality Based on the findings from a Front End Engineering Design Report from 2005, it is po... Read more
