The Tunnelled Wave Energy Converter (TWEC) concept of SeWave utilizes clean and inexhaustible energy. It is both invisible and soundless. The only thing visible are the waves and a road to the tunnel.
The powerful wave energy, familiar geology, and several years of experience with tunnelling work in the Faroe Islands make the islands well suited for testing this new technology, which is also applicable on a global level, if the nescessary local features are present.
The wave energy plant
A tunnelled wave energy plant offers more advantages than other wave energy systems, connected to land. These include:
- that we will build it on land and not out in the surf - that the system is both invisible and soundless
The waves are all you will see
As shown on the drawing, the wave energy plant itself is invisible - below the surface and inside the cliff. Proposed layout of the first OWC chamber.

The only thing visible is a road (picture above) to the tunnel, which of course is also visible (picture below).
Our environmental investigations have included terrain, sound exposure, bird life and construction.
The wave motions outside the cliff face push the water into the tunnel-chamber, creating the function of a stamp for the air, which is pressured and pulled through a turbine.
